Made it to Hong Kong (finally)

A380 Bed (its fabulous)
Looking Down Stairs from the Upper Level on A380

The problems continue on this trip. We boarded my NEW FAVORITE airplane in the world. Singapore Airlines A380. It is a double decker and our seats were on the top level. The flight took off at 11pm, we had been drinking wine in the very nice Singapore Lounge in San Francisco. On board more champagne, a light dinner (lamb chops: Suzzane Goin from Lucques is their consultant chef), more wine, finally a sleeping pill. Then the nicest thing of all: The seats turn into a flat bed. I don’t mean the seats recline to 180 flat. I mean they fold them over and create a HUGE bed with mattress. It is the most comfortable bed I have ever experienced on a plane.

We were flying to Hong Kong where we had a 2 hour layover to switch to Thai for the trip on to Bangkok. When I woke up I looked at the computerized screen that shows miles, flown, miles to destination, etc. It said 1 hour to land in TOKYO. I knew our flight should last another 3 hours and I knew we weren’t going to TOKYO but Hong Kong. I called the stewardess over to show them the mistake in their computerized travel map. She informed me that while I was sleeping the Captain made an announcement that a 91 year old woman had a heart attack or something and the flight had been diverted to Tokyo. We finally landed in Tokyo and they removed her from the plane. For sure we will miss our Bangkok flight.

I am writing this on the tarmac in Tokyo. They assure us the ground staff is busy figuring out how to get us and hopefully our luggage to Bangkok. We don’t know how long the delay will be or when or if we will get into Bangkok. It is an interesting trip. On the ground here, we have no Internet so there is no way for me to contact the Hotel to cancel the driver who was to pick us up at the Bangkok Airport. Oh well. I am hoping we have wifi when we are in the air. The plane is equipped with it but it doesn’t work at the gate. The plane is fueled now, but we still can’t take off because the breaks are “Hot” from our landing. We need to wait until they cool off. They inform us we will be 4 hours late into Hong Kong.

On the flight from Tokyo to Hong Kong we worried about what kind of flight arrangements we could make and what would happen to our luggage. The flight attendant said that the Singapore Air ground people were on top of it don’t worry.
When the plane arrived in Hong Kong we deplaned and were met by a woman holding a printed sign with our names. She guided us to the Thai Transfer desk where they had already arranged two business class tickets to Bangkok, leaving at 1:30pm.  They were amazing. We are now in the Thai Gold Lounge catching our breath and making arrangements for massages and dinners when we finally arrive in Bangkok. All is well that ends well!
